The responsibility of designing the interior of the Palace on Wheels was given to Payal Kapoor. In 1995-96, Payal Kapoor designed the interior of the train in a well-highlighted manner and presented it to the world. Interiors were magically transformed- not a hair out of place! Her idea was to highlight the interiors of the train with the cultural ethos of the respective states, well-oriented furniture, painting, handicrafts, and furnishing. She decorated the saloon and lounge with colorful designing ornaments. Her work is so adorable that every tourist captures (mentally as well as electronically) a glimpse of this great example of perfection leisurely.

Her visionary approach of transforming virtual decor ideas into a reality makes everyone astounded. She did the renovation of the Palace on Wheels in the years 1998, 2002, and 2011.
